Are you looking for a way to make a natural and healthier toothpaste for your family? Natural toothpaste is a wonderful alternative to commercial products, having less chemicals and its also much more environmental friendly. By creating your own toothpaste, you can control the products that you are getting exposed to and customize it according to your own needs.
It is however important to educate yourself around every ingredient to know what it is doing. We will be discussing it in more detail later, but for now lets jump into the natural toothpaste recipe. I personally use the ingredients bellow mostly because its affordable and you can get it at any local shop.

Ingredients:
1/2 cup baking soda
1/3 cup coconut oil
1 teaspoon sea salt
Essential oil of choice (peppermint, spearmint, cinnamon or tea tree)
Baking soda is a popular choice key for natural toothpaste due to its mild abrasiveness. It acts almost like a very fine scrub or the teeth, which helps effectively remove plaque and surface stains without damaging the protective layer of the teeth. Furthermore baking soda is a natural alkaline which means it is eco-friendly, but also neutralizes acids in the mouth, reducing bacteria and preventing cavities.
Coconut oil is a popular addition because of its antimicrobial properties, it combats harmful bacteria in the mouth. It also soothes the gums, reduces plaque buildup, and promotes overall oral health. Its blends easily with other ingredients, this making the toothpaste texture much more gentle when for use.

While essential oils does have antibacterial properties, its main function is to ad some flavor to the toothpaste. On the other hand sea salt has plenty of beneficial properties due to its rich mineral content, including calcium, magnesium, and potassium. These components help to strengthen and remineralizer the enamel, preventing acid erosion and decay. Just like the baking soda, its mild abrasiveness gently scrubs away any plague, while its natural antiseptic properties combats bacteria and reduce inflammation, promoting healthier gums and fresher breath.
A simple DIY toothpaste can be created by combining the ingredients mentioned. The greatest advantage of making natural toothpaste is the ability to customize it to your specific needs, whether it’s for whitening your teeth or adjusting the texture for sensitivity. Always consult your dentist before transitioning to natural alternatives.
